Job summary

Weeks Marine, Inc. is seeking a skilled welder to plan, lay out, weld, install and repair structural steel products in accordance with plans, specs, welding codes, and industry standards. Must read drawings and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

The role requires operating welding machines, handling gas cylinders safely, and inspecting work for compliance with contract requirements. Overtime, nights, and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; prior welding experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge and abilities for the position.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate with management.
• Proficient use of electrical, hand, power, layout and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding on various materials using GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and SAW.
• Lay out, position, fit and weld structural components per drawings.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and operate welding machines per specs.
• Adjust valves, gauges, and flames; safely handle gas cylinders.
• Operate air arc gouger, grinders and other equipment.
• Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, time, costs, materials.
• Inspect subordinate work for contract compliance and take corrective action.

Plan, lay-out, weld, install, and repair all types of structural steel products in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

• Perform welding on various materials at required position using different welding processes, including, but not limited to, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and SAW.
• Lay out, position, fit and weld various structural components, including flanges, piping supports, structural plates, beams, etc., in accordance with the supplied piping/structural fabrication drawings.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and operate welding machines according to job specifications and welding procedures.
• Adjust valves, gauges, and flames as needed and be capable of handling compressed gas and oxygen cylinders safely.
• Operate air arc gouger, grinder, and other industry machines, tools, and equipment.
• Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools

• Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft)
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload
