About the Position
The Structural Welder role involves the fabrication, assembly, repair, and welding of structural steel parts, strictly adhering to technical drawings, blueprints, and safety protocols. Success in this position relies on a deep understanding of fabrication methods, precise measurement capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the safe handling of all welding and metalworking machinery.
Core Responsibilities
- Analyze and translate technical drawings, welding symbols, and assembly instructions.
- Utilize MIG, FCAW, SMAW, or other authorized techniques to join structural steel elements.
- Configure and manage fabrication tools, including grinders, cutting apparatus, and welding power sources.
- Position, align, and secure steel components in preparation for the welding process.
- Verify that finished assemblies meet specified dimensions and quality standards to ensure structural integrity.
- Execute various metalworking tasks such as beveling, drilling, cutting, and grinding.
- Examine welds for potential issues like porosity, cracks, or fusion gaps to maintain high standards.
- Perform corrective actions or adjustments on fabricated parts and welds as needed.
- Ensure that all fabrication tools and workspace areas are kept in a secure and functional state.
- Adhere to established production guidelines and internal quality control procedures.
- Uphold all site-specific, organizational, and OSHA safety regulations.
- Consistently utilize all mandated personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate safely in proximity to industrial machinery, cranes, and heavy steel materials to protect yourself and your coworkers.
- Keep precise documentation regarding production output and quality inspections.

Required Qualifications
- Prior background in structural steel fabrication or welding is highly valued.
- Proficiency in deciphering complex blueprints and industry-standard welding symbols.
- Comprehensive understanding of structural steel fabrication and joining techniques.
- Competence in utilizing precision measuring instruments like calipers, levels, squares, and tape measures.
- Capability to safely manage fabrication equipment, including plasma cutters, grinders, and welding machines.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality output and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to contribute effectively both as an individual contributor and as a collaborative team member.
- Physical capacity to lift, transport, and maneuver heavy materials as needed.
- Ability to perform tasks in diverse physical positions, including kneeling, bending, standing, or working at elevation.

Education and Background
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Valid welding certification is mandatory.
- Two or more years of experience in structural welding is preferred, contingent upon the level of the role.
