Job Summary
We are looking for a Civil Engineer interested in advancing their career as a Structural Surveyor. This role involves conducting land and construction surveys for bridges, highways, and heavy civil projects using advanced surveying equipment. You will work closely with engineers, architects, and construction teams to ensure precise measurements and compliance with project specifications and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee the daily operations of assigned survey field crews, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices in surveying methodology.
  • Train and mentor junior team members to enhance their skills and understanding of surveying techniques.
  • Coordinate with internal project managers and external clients to deliver accurate and efficient survey services.
  • Establish control points and determine the best approach for conducting surveys based on project specifications.
  • Collect and analyze data to support construction layouts, property boundaries, and topographical assessments.
  • Assign tasks to crew members to optimize efficiency and ensure timely project completion.
  • Perform precise calculations and maintain accurate records essential to survey documentation.
  • Ensure all assigned survey equipment and vehicles are properly maintained, inventoried, and in optimal working condition.
  • Address and resolve employee performance issues within the survey field crew as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with management to align survey activities with project goals, maximize productivity, and effectively utilize man-hours.

Typical Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct surveying services for bridges, highways, foundations, and other heavy civil construction projects.
  • Perform construction layout, grade sheet computation, topographical/volume analysis, and project datum conversion/transformation.
  • Verify survey data accuracy, ensuring precise measurements and calculations on-site.
  • Research and review legal records, land titles, and survey records to determine property boundaries.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and terrain characteristics.
  • Compute geodetic measurements and analyze survey data to determine the positions and elevations of land features.
  • Establish fixed reference points for use in map development and construction planning.
  • Utilize theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based GPS systems to determine longitudes and latitudes of key features.
  • Record and interpret survey results, including shape, contour, location, and elevation details.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure survey data aligns with project requirements.
  • Adjust and calibrate surveying instruments to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Plan and execute ground surveys to establish baselines, elevations, and reference points for construction.
  • Conduct hydrographic surveys to determine navigable channels and collect data for marine structures, including breakwaters and piers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college of university
  • 2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Proficiency in data collection techniques and tools relevant to surveying.
  • A good working knowledge of survey equipment such as Robotic Total Stations, data collectors and software, and GPS equipment
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Trimble, or similar software is preferred.
  • Ability to perform all aspects of data collection for topographic surveys, boundary surveys, planimetric surveys, and construction staking.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders.
  • A valid driver's license may be required.

REQUIREMENTS: ALL Applicants must be:

  • 18 years of Age
  • Able to pass a Drug Test
  • Legally Eligible to Work in the US
  • Open to working different shifts if needed by the project
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from jobsite every workday (driver's license preferred)
  • Willingness to travel for project requirements (multi-state opportunities)
