Job summary

StaffBuildersHR is partnering with a well-established steel company in Lakeland, FL to hire Welder/Fitters. The role focuses on fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel components in a fabrication shop, with emphasis on reading blueprints and welding symbols to ensure quality assemblies.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as structural steel fitter or similar fabrication role.
• Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
• Understanding of structural steel components and fabrication processes.
• Proficiency with measuring tools (tape, squares, levels).
• Basic welding knowledge and ability to perform tack welds.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced shop.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine proper layout and assembly of structural steel components.
• Identify CNC-scribed markings and use them to accurately position plates, beams, columns, and other structural members.
• Measure, mark, align, and fit steel components according to specifications and tolerances.
• Use hand tools, measuring devices, clamps, and fitting equipment to properly secure components.
• Tack weld fitted components to hold assemblies in place for final welding.
• Work closely with Quality Control (QC) to ensure fitted assemblies meet quality and safety standards prior to welding.
• Coordinate with welders to release approved assemblies for final weld completion.
• Rotate through different stages of the fabrication and fitting process as needed to support workflow and production schedules.
