Job summary

Structural Systems Repair Group LLC in Tennessee seeks a Structural Steel Tech to read blueprints, cut, weld, and erect steel components with precision and safety. You will collaborate with engineers and trades to address field challenges and ensure quality assembly on-site.

Responsibilities include fabricating and inspecting welds, rigging for crane lifts, and maintaining tools and equipment to meet design specifications and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and vocational welding training.
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication and erection (2–3 years).
  • Proficiency with SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW welding processes and safety regs.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and project specs to determine dimensions and materials.
  • Select, cut, and weld steel components to fabricate or repair structural parts.
  • Erect, install, and connect beams, girders, and columns to form building frames.
  • Inspect and test welds and structures for safety and design accuracy.
  • Rig steel components for crane lifting and guide positioning during installation.
  • Operate fabrication equipment (shears, rollers, flame cutters, drill presses).
  • Coordinate with engineers and trades to address field challenges and keep projects moving.

Together, we're preserving history, restoring structures, and building a legacy of quality, integrity, and purpose.What You’ll BuildRead and interpret blueprints and project specifications to determine dimensions and materials required for structural framing systemsSelect, cut, and weld steel components to fabricate or repair structural parts using various welding techniques and metalworking toolsErect, install, and connect steel beams, girders, and columns to form building frameworks and other structuresInspect and test welds and structures to ensure they meet safety regulations and structural design specificationsRig steel components for crane lifting and guide their positioning and alignment during installationOperate fabricating equipment including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill pressesCollaborate with engineers, architects, construction management teams, and other trades to address field challenges, coordinate work, and keep projects movingMaintain tools and equipment in good working condition and perform regular maintenance as neededFollow safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent jobsite injuries and accidentsUse leveling and surveying equipment to ensure structures are erected plumb and levelPerform cutting, bending, and threading of pipes and structural steelMaintain accurate records of materials used, hours worked, and job activitiesWhat You BringHigh school diploma or equivalentVocational training or apprenticeship in welding or structural steelwork preferred2–3 years of experience in structural steel fabrication and erectionProficiency in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding techniques and relevant certifications, such as AWS D1.1Ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural design drawingsFamiliarity with structural steel materials and their propertiesKnowledge of industry safety standards and OSHA regulationsCompetency operating cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery used in steel constructionPhysical strength and stamina to handle heavy materials and stand for long periodsPrecise hand-eye coordination and dexterity when working with tools and materialsStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to work at heights and in varying weather conditionsProblem-solving skills to address challenges during constructionStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance and controlWillingness to work overtime and weekends as required by project deadlinesValid driver’s license and reliable transportationCommitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining required trade licenses or certificationsThe Bottom LineWe’re looking for a skilled steel professional who understands that the strength of a structure starts with the quality of the work behind it.
