Travel between job sites is required, with work at heights and in elevated areas. Proficiency with total station, Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and MS Office is preferred to document measurements and create as-built

Structural Steel Survey Technician – Field

Location:Maryland or Virginia | Field-Based
Job Type:Direct Hire
Pay:Starting at $30/hour; higher starting rates may be available based on experience.

Position Summary

We are hiring aField Survey Technicianto support structural and miscellaneous steel projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This position works primarily at active construction sites, where you’ll collect survey information, perform layout and alignment checks, and help steel crews maintain accurate installation.

Regular travel between job sites is required, along with the ability to work safely in elevated and active construction areas.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document field measurements and survey information for construction activities.
• Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions.
• Check elevations, embed placement, alignment, and structural orientation.
• Prepare or assist withas-built drawings.
• Support structural steel erection by verifying positioning, alignment, and placement.
• Coordinate with other trades to maintain proper plumbness and structural accuracy.
• Assist with installation activities involvingstructural and miscellaneous steel, including stairs and shafts.
• UseTrimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Officefor surveying, documentation, and project support.
• Follow site safety requirements and promote safe work practices.
• Travel regularly to construction sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
• Work from elevated steel floors and aerial lifts as required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experiencein structural steel erection, field surveying, or a related construction field.
• Experience with surveyingslopes, grades, and layout for structural and miscellaneous metals.
• Proficiency using atotal station or similar surveying equipment.
• Working knowledge ofAISC standardsrelated to building alignment and orientation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate field measurements.
• Comfortable working at heights, includingaerial lifts and elevated steel floors.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with onsite crews and other trades.
• Willingness to travel regularly between regional job sites.
