Job summary

Helion Group seeks a Structural Steel Quality & NDT Inspector (AWS CWI) to serve as the quality gatekeeper for steel components used in demanding applications. You will lead visual inspections, verify welding practices, and perform NDT to ensure shipments meet our standards.

On the shop floor, you will inspect finished pieces, assess MIG/GMAW welds with emphasis on CJP, and switch to UT/MT for safety-critical parts.

Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is required.
• Proven background inspecting structural steel welding.
• Fluency reading and interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, engineering drawings, and shop drawings.

Responsibilities

• Execute and record visual weld inspections on ~60% of finished product prior to release.
• Evaluate MIG/GMAW welds with emphasis on CJP quality.
• Perform and document UT and MT on seismic and load-bearing products.
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and drawings to verify compliance with specs and WPS.
• Identify weld discontinuities and collaborate with welders and production to correct issues.
• Ensure welding procedures and inspection requirements are followed consistently.
• Support production with guidance on welding quality and inspection criteria.

As an AWS Certified Welding Inspector, you will lead visual inspections, validate welding practices, and perform NDT to ensure every shipment reflects our standards.A day in the lifeYou start on the shop floor, moving methodically through finished pieces and conducting visual inspections on roughly 60% of outgoing product before shipment. With a practiced eye, you assess structural MIG/GMAW welds—paying particular attention to Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) joints. When safety-critical parts roll up, you switch gears to Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle (MT), documenting results for seismic and load-bearing components.Between inspections, you review engineering blueprints, fabrication drawings, and shop drawings, confirming each weld aligns with specifications, applicable drawings, WPS requirements, and internal quality criteria.
