Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an internal or external CAD/Detailing training program.
• Minimum of five (5) years of structural steel detailing, checking, modeling, drafting, or related experience.
• Experience independently checking structural steel 3D models, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and related detailing deliverables.
• Experience reading and interpreting structural and architectural drawings, specifications, contract documents, and construction documentation.
• Experience identifying detailing discrepancies, connection conflicts, constructability concerns, and potential fabrication or erection issues.
• Experience utilizing 3D structural steel modeling and detailing software in a fabrication, construction, or engineering environment.
• Strong attention to detail, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to clearly communicate redlines, corrections, and technical information.

Responsibilities

• Check 3D Models & Drawings: Independently review structural steel 3D models, shop drawings, assembly and part drawings, erection drawings, and related detailing deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
• Verify Fabrication & Erection Details: Check dimensions, elevations, member orientation and identification, connections, holes, bolts, welds, material information, and other critical requirements.
• Review Against Contract Documents: Compare models and drawings against structural and architectural drawings, specifications, design documents, and other project requirements for missing or conflicting information.
• Create & Verify Redlines: Develop clear electronic redline markups, communicate corrections to Detailers, verify revisions are incorporated.
• Manage Revisions & Design Information: Ensure RFIs, design clarifications, and project revisions are properly incorporated into models, drawings, and docs.
• Review Bills of Material & Production Information: Verify BOMs and production data align with checked models and drawings.
• Identify Constructability Issues: Recognize detailing conflicts and fabrication/erection problems and coordinate with teams to resolve them.
• Perform Final Quality Checks: Complete final reviews before detailing deliverables are released for customer review, procurement, fabrication, CNC processing, or field use.
• Support Detailing Quality: Collaborate across Detailing, Project Management, and Production to improve detailing accuracy and practices.
