Job summary

Qualico Steel Company, Inc. is seeking a reliable Structural Steel Loader to safely load, unload, and secure steel materials in the shop, yard, and on delivery routes.

You will work with forklifts, cranes, and rigging to move beams, plates, and fabricated products, while maintaining accurate paperwork and safety protocols. Responsibilities include inspecting loads, following PPE requirements, coordinating with drivers and shop staff, and supporting inventory and staging tasks in varying weather

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in steel, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environments preferred.
• Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and rigging equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload structural steel, beams, plates, tubing, and fabricated materials using forklifts, cranes, and rigging equipment.
• Verify material quantities, tags, and shipping paperwork before loading.
• Secure loads properly for safe transportation and DOT compliance.
• Assist with staging materials for production and shipping schedules.
• Inspect materials for damage and report issues to supervisors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Communicate effectively with drivers, welders, fitters, and production staff.
• Assist with inventory counts and general yard or warehouse duties as needed.

Job description

The Structural Steel Loader is responsible for safely loading, unloading, organizing, and securing structural steel materials for delivery and production operations. This role supports warehouse and fabrication teams by ensuring materials are handled efficiently, accurately, and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load and unload structural steel, beams, plates, tubing, and fabricated materials using forklifts, cranes, and rigging equipment
• Verify material quantities, tags, and shipping paperwork before loading
• Secure loads properly for safe transportation and DOT compliance
• Assist with staging materials for production and shipping schedules
• Inspect materials for damage and report issues to supervisors
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Experience in steel, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environments preferred

• Basic understanding of load securement and material handling
• Ability to read tape measures and identify steel products
• Strong attention to safety and detail
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
• Ability to work outdoors and in industrial environments
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures

Preferred Skills:

• Overhead crane experience
• Experience loading flatbed trailers
• Knowledge of structural steel products and fabrication processes

This position operates in a structural steel fabrication shop, warehouse, and outdoor yard environment with exposure to heavy equipment, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions.
