Job summary

Hirani Engineering and Land Surveying, D.P.C. is seeking a part-time Steel Inspector to perform special inspections of structural steel welding and high-strength bolted connections on projects across New York City and New York State.

This role ensures fabrication and erection comply with documents, specs, standards and building codes. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of structural steel inspection experience, the required welding and bolting certifications, and a strong understanding of

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in structural steel inspection.
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and welding symbols.
Knowledge of AWS D1.1, AISC 360, RCSC and applicable codes.
Documentation procedures and non-conformance reporting.
Strong communication and attention to detail.
Valid driver’s license and travel to multiple sites in NY.

Responsibilities

Perform welding inspection duties including review of WPS/PQR per AWS D1.1 and project requirements.
Inspect welds, fit-up, temperatures, materials, and bolt installations.
Witness NDT methods (UT/MT/PT/RT) when required and document results.
Verify bolting methods and pretensioning per project specs (AISC/RCSC).
Prepare daily inspection reports and NCRs, track deficiencies and closeouts.
Maintain certifications and participate in safety procedures.
