Qualifications

• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.
• Experience with torch cutting, beveling, grinding, and weld preparation.
• Knowledge of structural steel fitting, layout, assembly, and fabrication processes.

Responsibilities

• Fit, position, and assemble complex, large-scale steel structures and fabricated components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld maps, and work instructions.
• Plan job procedures and identify tools, materials, and equipment needed.
• Perform torch cutting, beveling, and material preparation.
• Complete weld preparation, including pre-fitting, filling gaps, building up edges, and preparing joints for proper fit-up.
• Perform grinding and surface preparation to ensure accurate component alignment and weld readiness.
• Mark weld joints and identify weld locations according to weld maps and drawings.
• Prepare, position, assemble, and tack-weld parts prior to final welding.
• Operate shop fabrication equipment and material-handling equipment.
• Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib hoists to move materials.
• Inspect materials and equipment and report defects or malfunctions to supervision.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow shop safety procedures and wear PPE.
