Job summary

M&J Steel - Trussville, AL is seeking an Estimator for steel construction bids. You will manage the bid from drawing take-offs to pricing, and hand off to Project Management, while ensuring accuracy, on-time delivery, and healthy margins.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years estimating structural steel or miscellaneous metals, with strong take-off and vendor coordination skills, and familiarity with AISC and CSI standards.

Qualifications

• Education: HS diploma/GED; degree preferred in construction management or related field.
• 3+ years estimating structural steel or miscellaneous metals for fabricator/erector/subcontractor.
• Fluent reading of structural, architectural, and shop drawings; knowledge of AISC, AWS D1.1, CSI Division 5.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bids from drawings and take-offs through pricing and proposal issuance.
• Solicit and compare vendor quotes; coordinate with purchasing for current pricing.
• Write clear scope letters and support bid to award; assist with buyout and change orders.
