In this role, you will produce detailed 3D models, shop fabrication drawings, and erection plans for structural steel projects using Tekla Structures. You will work closely with project managers, structural engineers, and shop fabrication personnel to ensure drawings are accurate, buildable, and compliant with project specifications.

We are seeking an experienced and precise Structural Steel Detailer to join our team. In this role, you will produce detailed 3D models, shop fabrication drawings, and erection plans for structural steel projects using Tekla Structures. You will work closely with project managers, structural engineers, and shop fabrication personnel to ensure drawings are accurate, buildable, and compliant with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D Modeling & Drawing Generation: Build accurate 3D structural models in Tekla Structures and extract shop drawings, erection plans, anchor bolt layouts, and material takeoff lists.
- Blueprint & Specification Analysis: Review architectural and structural drawings to determine project scope, dimensions, connection details, and material requirements.
- Clash Detection & RFIs: Identify geometry conflicts, design discrepancies, or constructability issues early; draft and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to reach timely resolutions.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure that all modeling and detailing strictly adhere to AISC guidelines, local building codes, and shop fabrication standards.
- Production & Field Support: Export CNC data files (NC/DSTV) for shop machinery and assist shop managers or field crews with detailing queries during fabrication and assembly.
Required Qualifications
- Steel Detailing Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in structural steel detailing.
- Tekla Proficiency: Minimum 2 years of active, professional experience using Tekla Structures for modeling and drawing extraction.
- Blueprint Mastery: Exceptional ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference architectural and structural contract documents.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of AISC standards, standard structural shapes, bolted/welded connection types, and standard shop/field erection processes.
- Accuracy: High spatial awareness, mathematical precision, and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred / Additional Skills
- Experience detailing miscellaneous steel (e.g., stairs, handrails, ladders, and dunnage).
- Experience exporting and checking CNC files (.nc1) for automated shop equipment.
- Familiarity with companion software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Trimble Connect.
- Knowledge of steel management and tracking systems (e.g., FabSuite, FabTrol, or STRUMIS).
