Job summary

Qualico Steel Company, Inc. in the United States seeks a Coatings Supervisor to oversee surface preparation, coating application, and loading operations on the shop floor. You will ensure coatings are applied safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, drawings, and manufacturer data sheets. Lead painters, blasters, and loading crews to meet production goals while enforcing OSHA and environmental requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial or structural steel coatings.
• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of industrial coating systems (zinc-rich primers, epoxies, urethanes, intumescent).
• Working knowledge of SSPC/NACE and ASTM standards.
• Ability to read and interpret coating specifications and shop drawings.
• Familiarity with environmental monitoring (dew point, humidity, temperature).

Responsibilities

• Supervise surface preparation and coating application including abrasive blasting, priming, intermediate, and finish coats.
• Lead and coordinate painters, blasters, and loading crews to meet production goals.
• Ensure coating systems are applied per project specifications, drawings, and manufacturer data sheets.
• Verify surface cleanliness, profile, environmental conditions, and coating readiness.
• Monitor and document coating quality including DFT/WFT, cure times, and defect correction.
• Coordinate inspections with QA/QC personnel and third-party inspectors.
• Enforce safety procedures, PPE use, and compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Communicate daily production status, material needs, and schedule impacts to management.
• Maintain coating and blasting equipment and ensure proper material handling and storage

Preferred Qualifications:

SSPC/NACE Coating Inspector (CIP Level 1 or higher)

OSHA 10 or 30

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work on a fabrication shop floor with exposure to noise and heat.

Comfortable standing, walking, and moving components as needed.

Able to use personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Industrial shop and/or field settings.
• Exposure to coatings, solvents, dust, and noise.
• Requires standing, lifting, and use of PPE for extended periods.
