Thorson Baker + Associates, Inc. is a mid-size structural engineering firm specializing in institutional and commercial building design across the United States and Puerto Rico.

We seek a Structural Engineer to design various building systems, lead design engineers and CAD/BIM technicians, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Primary duties include designing structural systems, preparing calculations, and ensuring constructible, cost-effective construction

Qualifications

• Three (3) + years’ experience in the structural design of buildings for institutional and commercial projects.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Capable of engaging in meetings with clients, owners, contractors, etc.
• Willing to work extra hours above 40 hours a week when necessary to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design the structural systems for institutional, retail and commercial projects and prepare calculation packages and construction documents.
• Manage design engineers and CAD/BIM technicians for building design projects and ensure document quality.
• Coordinate with architects, owners, other engineers, officials and consultants throughout the design phases.
• Meet client schedules and internal design/construction administration timelines.
• Oversee office construction administration including RFI responses and coordination during construction.
• Identify additional scope and prepare quotes for principal review.

Structural engineer capable of designing buildings utilizing various structural systems for the development of schematic, design development, construction documents, specifications and construction administration for institutional and commercial projects.

Job Duties:

• Design of the structural systems for institutional, retail and commercial projects. Prepare calculations and well-coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost effective and constructible.
• Manage design engineers and CAD/BIM technicians for building design projects including quality control of the documents in a friendly work environment.
• Communicate and coordinate with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, building officials, other consultants, etc. throughout the design phases of the building projects.
• Must meet client schedules and internal design and construction administration time budgets.
• Office construction administration including review of shop drawings, respond to RFI’s, and coordinate with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, etc. through the construction phase.
• Must be capable of identifying additional scope during the design phase and construction process and be capable of preparing additional services quotes for Principal review.
• Able to travel nationally for pre-design site visits, design meetings, construction phase site observations, etc. and prepare technical narrative reports.

Requirements

• Capable of attending and engaging in meetings with clients, owners, contractors, etc. in a positive and productive manner.
• Possess a good work ethic and be efficient in job duties.
• Willing to work extra hours above 40 hours a week when necessary to meet project deadlines and client demands.

Thorson Baker + Associates offers a flexible starting time:

8 hours Mon-Friday

8.5 hours Mon-Thursday with 6-hour Fridays

9 hours Mon-Thursday with 4-hour Fridays
