Responsibilities

  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, calculations, and design reports.
  • Communicate technical information clearly in meetings with owners and contractors.
  • Produce structural/geotechnical calculations and reports for tunnel/trenchless design.
  • Prepare technical memoranda and reports with guidance.
  • Complete structural engineering for tunnel, shaft, and stations including linings and supports.
  • Participate in regional initiatives, conferences, and professional associations.

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Structural Project Engineer role in our Frederick, MD office. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience working on relevant tunnel, and trenchless projects, preferably including both design and construction roles and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. We are looking for a motivated professional with a forward-thinking mindset, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative spirit.

Annual Compensation: $88,000 to $110,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards

STRUCTURAL PROJECT ENGINEER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
  • Prepare construction plans and specifications, structural/geostructural calculations and design reports, and technical memoranda with appropriate guidance.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Produce engineering calculations including tunnel, geotechnical, and structural calculations (including numerical analysis) as required to support tunnel and trenchless design including excavation (shafts & tunnels – including connection details and complex structures) and adhere to all local and national codes for concrete, steel, and timber design.
  • Prepare technical reporting including memoranda, letters, and reports.
  • Complete structural engineering associated with tunnel, shaft, and stations, including lining, connections, support of excavation, and retaining structures in steel, concrete and timber.
  • Increase LJB’s visibility in the industry by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified professional association activities.
  • Field based assignments will include shift work, weekdays, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.
STRUCTURAL PROJECT ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required (Civil, Structural, Geological/Geotechnical, or related field), master’s degree preferred.
