Job summary

United Launch Alliance, LLC. seeks a Mechanical Engineer 1 in the Engineering and Infrastructure (E&I) department to ensure the operational readiness of ground support systems essential to the successful integration and launch of Atlas V and Vulcan rockets.

You will perform design and analysis of facility mechanical systems, troubleshoot, manage projects from conception to completion, and prepare technical presentations and documentation for leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in an accredited engineering program.
  • Familiarity with ASME, AISC, and ASCE design codes.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk CAD software.
  • Strong MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze facility mechanical systems (movable platforms, hydraulic systems, high-bay doors).
  • Troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, and investigate mechanical/hydraulic issues.
  • Manage engineering projects from concept to completion.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on status, analysis, and design reviews.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation and procedures.

Job Overview & Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer 1 in the Engineering and Infrastructure (E&I) department at United Launch Alliance (ULA), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational readiness of ground support systems essential to the successful integration and launch of Atlas V and Vulcan rockets.

  • Perform design and analysis for new and modified facility mechanical systems, including movable platforms, hydraulic systems, and high-bay doors.
  • Conduct hands-on troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and failure investigations for mechanical and hydraulic system anomalies.
  • Manage engineering projects from conception to completion
  • Prepare and deliver verbal and written presentation on project status, technical analysis, and design reviews to team members and leadership
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation such as schematics, analysis reports, and operational procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and design codes, such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
  • Experienced with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, primarily the Autodesk suite of products.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using RISA-3D structural analysis software and/or Simulia Abaqus CAE finite element analysis (FEA) software is preferred
  • Experience with 3D design software, such as Autodesk Inventor
  • Heavy industrial experience and/or experience at aerospace launch facilities desired.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling construction projects desired.
  • Experience designing and/or maintaining hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of aerospace facilities operations and ground support equipment design
