Job summary

SSR, a leading engineering design, consulting, and planning firm, invites motivated Civil Engineering students to join as Structural Engineering Intern. You'll gain exposure to structural design, analysis, and construction documentation on healthcare, education, commercial, and civic projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structural design and analysis for building projects.
• Support the preparation of drawings, calculations, and docs.
• Work with Revit and AutoCAD and other BIM tools.
• Learn applicable building codes and design standards.
• Assist cross-discipline tasks across Civil, Electrical, Mechanical.
• Document work with accuracy and completeness per SSR policies.
• Attend team meetings and track actions and due dates.
• Share recent coursework insights with the team.
• Participate in trainings, lunch‑and‑learns and site walks.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors and peers.

What You’ll Do

We are seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to support our structural engineering team on a variety of projects, including healthcare, education, commercial, and civic facilities. This internship offers exposure to structural design, analysis, and construction documentation.

• Assist with structural design and analysis for building projects
• Support the preparation of drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
• Work with engineering software and BIM tools such as Revit and AutoCAD
• Learn applicable building codes, design standards, and industry best practices
• Assist team members with preparation and execution of tasks on assigned projects across your discipline (e.g., Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, HR, IT, Marketing).
• Apply industry standards and SSR policies under the guidance of project leads; document work with accuracy and completeness.
• Attend team meetings; capture notes, actions, and due dates; follow up to keep tasks moving.
• Seek opportunities to expand knowledge and skills; share recent developments or coursework insights with the team.
• Participate in internal/external trainings, lunch‑and‑learns, and site walks to build practical experience.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors and peers; ask questions proactively and elevate blockers early.

Who We’re Looking For

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or a related engineering program

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in structural design and the built environment
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or structural analysis software is a plus
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
• Eagerness to learn and contribute in a collaborative team setting
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledge of theories and methodologies relevant to the discipline.
• Clear written communication and presentation skills; strong speech clarity.
• Judgment and decision‑making, with attention to detail and follow‑through.
• Positive interpersonal collaboration and professionalism in team settings.
