Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Houston, TX, to assist lead engineers with design tasks, data entry, documentation, and project support across markets including Oil, Gas & Chemical.

You will learn standard engineering techniques, contribute to continuous improvement, and present solutions to project concerns while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. ABET accreditation and campus/community involvement are valued.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow.
  • Involvement in campus or community activities advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist with responses to general questions and support project teams.
  • Collect and analyze data for continuous improvement efforts.
  • Present solutions to project concerns.
  • Research solutions and recommend approaches to problems.
  • Support ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Oil, Gas & Chemical

The Oil, Gas & Chemical group is responsible for the planning and design across the energy landscape. This includes project execution for midstream, refining, liquefied natural gas and chemicals, with a strong focus on energy security, biofuels, carbon capture, hydrogen and solutions that advance a sustainable energy future.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications

  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
