Job summary

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern for the Transportation department in Hunt Valley, MD. The internship will begin Summer 2027 and offers hands-on design and inspection experience on highway structures.

Qualifications

• Perform assignments applying standard engineering techniques and criteria.
• Prepare engineering calculations for highway structures.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Assist in inspection of bridges, culverts and tunnels.
• Prepare construction drawing details using CAD software.
• Work under supervision of a project manager or senior team member.

Job Description

This position is expected to begin Summer 2027.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

Qualifications

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or another related field and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and plan to continue with the Master’s Degree are also eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed courses related to statics, strength of materials, introductory steel design, and introductory reinforced concrete design.
• Ability to follow procedures and pay attention to detail.
• Good written and oral communications skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in developing calculations using software such as Excel or Mathcad.

• Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
• Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
• This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in‑office work in Hunt Valley, MD. The selected candidate must be available to work in Hunt Valley, MD on a scheduled basis.
