Job summary

Hargrove is seeking an engineering intern to assist in performing routine designs of less complex assignments under direct supervision. You will help develop conceptual layouts, cost studies, and preliminary designs, while supporting drafting and material take-offs for construction projects.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a Civil Engineering BS/MS program with a GPA of 2.7 or higher and proficiency in CAD software like AutoCAD or MicroStation.

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree Program in Civil Engineering at an accredited university is required.
  • Structural coursework is required for structural engineering internships or coops.
  • GPA: 2.7 or above

  • Assist in performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments under direct supervision.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches.
  • Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Support drafting in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.

What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: Generally responsible for assisting in performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
  • Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.
  • Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with projects.
  • Assisting in producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Assisting with filing, print scanning, copying and other departmental support tasks.

Ideal Background Education
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree Program in Civil Engineering at an accredited university is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Begin developing virtual team skills and familiarity with interoffice execution.
