Job summary

Hargrove & Associates Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering intern to assist in routine designs under direct supervision. The role emphasizes applying theoretical knowledge to practical design tasks, following department standards, and contributing to layouts and cost studies.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a B.S./M.S. in Civil Engineering with a 2.7+ GPA, familiar with AutoCAD or MicroStation, and proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
  • GPA of 2.7 or above; structural coursework preferred for structural internships or coops.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments under direct supervision.
  • Follow department design and drafting standards and assist in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies.
  • Assist in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Assist in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Assist in producing designs emphasizing efficient use of construction materials and ease of construction.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Assist with filing, print scanning, copying and other departmental support tasks.

What You’ll Be Doing

Job Summary: Generally responsible for assisting in performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.

  • Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards
  • Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks
  • Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs
  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with projects
  • Assisting in producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems
  • Assisting with filing, print scanning, copying and other departmental support tasks

Ideal Background Education

Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree Program in Civil Engineering at an accredited university is required. Structural coursework is required for structural engineering internships or coops. GPA: 2.7 or above

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Begin developing virtual team skills and familiarity with interoffice execution
