Job summary

LJA Transportation is seeking a Structural Engineer in Texas to design concrete and steel structures such as retaining walls, lift stations, and treatment plants for public and private clients. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior staff in a supportive environment.

Qualified candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree and PE license, with experience in AASHTO LRFD, ACI, AISC, or IBC. Master’s is a plus; TxDOT/public works exposure is valued.

• Experience with structural governing codes and specifications such as AASHTO LRFD, ACI, AISC, or IBC.

POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Structural Engineer at LJA Transportation , you will be responsible for designing and developing concrete and steel structures—including retaining walls, lift stations, pump stations, and treatment plants - for clients such as TxDOT, MUDs, LIDs, and other public and private entities. Youll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other LJA sectors, apply sound engineering judgment, and mentor junior staff - all within a supportive, team-oriented environment that values connection and collaboration.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

• Performing design calculations, preparing plans, and developing design documents for clients such as MUDs, LIDs, TxDOT, and other governmental + private entities.
• Design of concrete and steel civil structures such as retaining walls, lift stations, stormwater pump stations, wastewater treatment plants, levee & related infrastructure improvements.
• Interacting with task leaders, multi-discipline team members, clients, and other consultants.
• Provide structural support for other LJA sectors such as Land Development, Rail, H&H, and Energy.
• Exercising judgment in independently evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Mentoring direct reports, and conveying knowledge to others
• Team lunches/breakfasts and social activities

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Effective communication skills to engage with other employee-owners
• Experience with structural governing codes and specifications such as AASHTO LRFD, ACI, AISC, or IBC.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

• Master of Science Degree in Structural Engineering
• Experience with Large Scale TxDOT or Public Works projects
• Familiarity with ACI 350 design methodology
• Advanced skills in specialized structural design or analysis software programs
• Technical Training Experience
• TxDOT Pre-certifications
