Job summary

Vertiv is seeking a Structural Engineer to lead the design of data center structures, performing conceptual and detailed design using RISA 3D. You will create SD, DD and CD narratives, review submittals, and coordinate with architects on thermal transfers while ensuring QA/QC of models and drawings.

The role requires at least 2 years in structural engineering and active knowledge of codes and steel connections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Structural (Civil) Engineering.
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
  • Minimum 2 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and standards.
  • Experience with structural steel design and connections.
  • Familiarity with lifting/transport design and temporary load conditions.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis tools (RISA 3D preferred).
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with data center or industrial structural projects.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and research new designs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide conceptual and detailed design of data center structures.

  • Coordinate with Arch. engineer on thermal transfer calculations.
  • Ensure model, drawings and calculations accuracy via QA/QC.
  • Design foundations and manage civ/mech/structural calculations with contractors.
  • Specify materials for fabrication and oversee vendor specifications.
  • Provide project coordination with customers and suppliers.
  • Support on-site repairs and validate fabrication/welding.

Job description


  • Serve as Structural Engineer (SE) to provide conceptual and detailed design of data center structures

  • Performing structural design and analysis using RISA 3D, in accordance with applicable design standards (lifting, transport and installation load cases)

  • Performing design of structural steel connections (bolted and welded connections, lifting points, anchoring points, etc.)

  • Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal building codes and regulations

  • Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements

  • Provide a detailed Schematic Design (SD), Detail Design (DD) and Construction Drawing (CD) narrative for structural design aspects of the solution

  • Review and approve structural product submittals.

  • Coordinate with Architectural Engineer on thermal transfer calculations (fire ratings and thermal bridges)

  • Ensuring model, drawings and calculation accuracy through internal quality control and design reviews

  • Detailed design of foundation requirements

  • Manage and coordinate contracted engineering companies regarding civil work calculations, mechanical and structural calculations and creation of factory documentation

  • Material specification – structural and finish

  • Work with Vertiv’s business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate material specifications and sizes for the fabrication process to succeed

  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases

  • Welding procedure and inspection specification

  • Provide Surface preparation and painting specification

  • Develop and provide Dimensional test procedure

  • Develop and provide structural load test procedure and calculation

  • Coordination between architectural and civil work design

  • Provide technical project coordination with customers and suppliers

  • Quality control during execution

  • Provide support for all on site module repairs (damaged paint, door malfunction etc.)

  • Work with fabrication teams to properly check and validate construction process, welding specifications and welding inspection points during construction of the module

  • Travel to fabricators facility for design validation and review their workmanship as well as provide engineering evaluations and workmanship audits as needed

  • May communicate with the customer to design the best possible solution for his needs

  • Offer creative, out of the box solutions to the customer


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Master’s Degree in Structural (Civil) Engineering

  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure

  • Minimum 2 years of structural engineering experience

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, building codes, and industry standards

  • Experience with structural steel design and connection design

  • Familiarity with lifting/transport design and temporary load conditions

  • Experience with data center or industrial structural projects

  • Must have the ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

  • Ability to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability or maintainability.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
