- Own structural analysis of the machine, including impeller and rotor stress, casing and pressure containment, and load paths through the packaged unit
- Design pressure-containing structures from initial calculations through fabricated hardware
- Perform rotordynamic and modal analysis with the turbomachinery engineer, including critical speeds, whirl, and magnetic bearing interface
- Design containment cases so energetic failures at speed remain inside the machine
- Design test cell structures and fixturing supporting the article, drive, and loop under load
- Contribute to Fluidstack’s thermofluids R&D for AI compute infrastructure, including compressors, chillers, heat exchangers, two-phase heat transfer, and thermal energy storage
Requirements
- Experience taking a pressure-containing design from calculation through to a fabricated article
- Experience running FEA on rotating hardware and correlating it against strain gauge, spin-pit, or test data
- Experience owning a containment or burst case and defending its safety basis
- Experience working on modal and critical-speed problems with aerodynamics designers
- Experience signing off structures that were built and being present for initial loading
