Job summary

PND Engineers, Inc. in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a Structural Engineer with 4–5 years of bridge and waterfront experience to lead analysis, design, and reviews. You will supervise AutoCAD drawings, conduct inspections, and prepare technical reports while mentoring junior staff and contributing to proposals.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (M.S. preferred), a P.E.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis (M.S. preferred).
• P.E. licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• 4–5 years of experience in structural analysis and design, ideally bridges/waterfront.
• Proficiency with structural software (RISA 3D, SAP) and AutoCAD.
• Understanding of loads, codes, construction practices; steel/concrete/wood/masonry design.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication; team mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Oversee detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD.
• Conduct inspections and produce technical reports with recommendations.

About the Role

As a Structural Engineer you will:

• Lead and assist in the analysis, design, and review of various bridge and waterfront structures, including:
  • Vehicle and pedestrian bridges
  • Gangways and trestles
  • Marine terminals
  • Harbors and marinas
  • Mooring and berthing structures
  • Piers, wharves, bulkheads, and quays
  • Breakwaters and shore protection structures
• Oversee the preparation of detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD.
• Conduct and manage inspections and condition assessments of existing structures, producing thorough technical reports with actionable recommendations.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex projects, including site-civil design, surveying, geotechnical engineering, and permitting.
• Contribute to project management, client communication, and proposal preparation to support business development.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with:

• A B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited institution (M.S. preferred).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• At least 4-5 years of experience in structural analysis and design, ideally with bridges and/or waterfront structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA 3D, SAP) and AutoCAD.
• A strong understanding of structural loads, load paths, relevant design codes/standards, and construction practices.
• Experience with structural steel, concrete, wood, and masonry design.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative approach to project work and a desire to mentor junior team members.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for fieldwork and client meetings.
• A valid U.S. driver’s license, a good driving record, and vehicle insurance.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
