Job summary

KPFF Consulting Engineers in Birmingham, AL is seeking a seasoned Structural Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join our Birmingham team and manage projects from concept through construction.

You will perform structural analysis and design for various building types, collaborate with clients, and contribute to nationwide projects while growing professionally under mentorship and industry-leading standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Minimum 4 years of structural engineering design experience (project management experience is a plus)
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, RAM Structural System, RISA-3D, or similar
• Strong knowledge of applicable building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC)
• Experience with BIM software such as Revit
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of structural engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation
• Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building types and materials
• Collaborate with clients to understand project goals and maintain clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle
• Participate in feasibility studies, site investigations, and structural assessments, as needed
• Prepare, review, and coordinate engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports in accordance with applicable building codes
• Monitor project progress, identify risks or challenges, and implement mitigation strategies to support successful outcomes
• Support KPFF’s mission of creating a perpetual organization built on happy people, happy clients, strong financial outcomes, and great engineering
• Promote compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while fostering a culture of safety
