Job summary

PENTA ENGINEERING CORPORATION in Tucson, AZ is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to design industrial steel and concrete structures and lead structural tasks within multidisciplinary teams.

You will prepare calculations, review drawings, coordinate with BIM and vendors, and guide designers to deliver cost-effective project drawings while upholding PENTA standards and budgets. Occasional site visits may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis.
• 5–10 years of structural engineering experience.
• PE license or actively pursuing.
• Knowledge of AISC, ACI and ASCE 7 codes.
• Proficiency with SAP2000, RISA-3D, STAAD.Pro and Revit BIM coordination.

Responsibilities

• Design steel and concrete structures and foundations for industrial systems.
• Develop conceptual designs for cost‑efficient layouts.
• Review and provide input on mechanical drawings and vendor proposals.
• Prepare calculations and direct designers in project drawings.
• Lead project portions and ensure quality, budgets and schedule.

Job description

The Intermediate Structural Engineer supports the design and execution of the structural designs for industrial projects and works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design steel and concrete structures and foundations for industrial systems.
• Develop conceptual designs resulting in optimal layouts and reduced costs.
• Review and provide structural input on mechanical drawings, layouts, and vendor proposals.
• Prepare calculations, hand and /or CAD sketches, and direct designers in developing project drawings.
• Review structural shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction.
• Participate in project meetings and coordinate with internal teams.
• Travel to project sites as needed

Leadership Responsibilities

• Lead portions of projects by developing the designs and coordinating with engineers and 3D designers.
• Under the direction of the Chief Engineer; lead assigned projects as the Structural Lead Engineer.
• Review work (calculations, models, drawings) and provide feedback.
• Responsible for the quality of assigned projects, including adherence to PENTA standards, budgets and schedule.
• Assist with estimates and change orders.
• Act as Engineer of Record (as licensed) and support department management when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering
• 5 to 10 years of experience in structural engineering (industrial project experience preferred)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or must be actively pursuing
• Good knowledge of current codes - AISC (Steel), ACI (Concrete), and ASCE 7
• Good knowledge of SAP2000, RISA-3D and STAAD.Pro
• Working knowledge of Revit for BIM coordination
