You will provide engineering consultation to engineering, sales, and manufacturing, and work with the Director of Engineering to meet objectives. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • EIT certification or pursuing PE licensure.
  • 7+ years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience in steel design/manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in material handling/racking industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural calculations using spreadsheets and CAD per codes and standards.
  • Review drawings to ensure SKII standards for quoting and manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with outside consulting engineers for building permits.
  • Assist Sales with proposals and new opportunities.
  • Support R&D activities of engineering team.
  • Ensure Steel King products meet building codes and specs.
  • Monitor code changes affecting product lines.
  • Educate sales force on engineering issues and Steel King capabilities.

Reporting Relationships

The Structural Engineer II reports to the Director of Engineering.

Summary

The Structural Engineer II is responsible for performing engineering duties related to the creation, development, design, and improvement of corporate products. Provides engineering consultation as requested/required to engineering, sales, and manufacturing. Works with the Director of Engineering to meet organizational objectives for engineering activities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform structural engineering calculations using spreadsheets and/or computer aided design software in accordance with applicable codes and standards; Assist sales efforts by evaluating requests for drawing proposals and determining the most cost efficient and safe design, using standard pre-engineered or custom components;
  • Ensure that structural analysis, drawings, and calculations are completed as required on engineered jobs;
  • Work with outside consulting engineers as required to provide necessary documentation for building permit applications;
  • Review drawings prepared by the drafting/detailing team to ensure that standards are met per SKII guidelines for quoting and manufacturing of component parts and finished goods;
  • Assist Sales with developing new opportunities, as needed, to improve overall sales, market share, and profitability;
  • Assist with research & development activities of the engineering team
  • Ensure that Steel King products are designed to applicable building codes and design specifications;
  • Monitor changes in codes and specifications and analyze the impact upon the Company’s product line;
  • Assist in the education of the internal and external sales force regarding engineering issues, effective application of engineering principles in the sales process, Steel King capabilities and procedures, product knowledge, and application information;
  • Duties may be changed as necessary at the discretion of the Director of Engineering, Executive Committee, and President.
Other Job Functions
  • As may be assigned by the Director of Engineering, Executive Committee, and/or President.
Corporate Responsibilities
  • Understand and execute the corporate Mission and Values;
  • Utilize engineering best practices to maintaining quality and structural standards;
  • Build teamwork between the Manufacturing department, Regional Managers, Inside Sales, Engineering department and other functional groups;
  • Represent Steel King Industries, Inc. to external contacts in a professional manner;
  • Preserve the company’s reputation for structural integrity and safety while designing leading-edge products and systems;
  • Inform the Director of Engineering of engineering trends and developments to assist the company in making informed decision and strategy changes;
  • Effectively utilize the equipment, computers, software, and other tools provided by the company;

Education/Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering or related field required;
  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred;
  • Fluency in at least one Structural Design Program (Such as RISA, STAAD, or SAP2000);
  • Familiarity with AISC and IBC standards
  • 7+ years of related experience preferred;
  • Experience in a steel design and manufacturing environment preferred;
  • Experience in the material handling / racking industry is a plus
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate, with willingness to work towards acquiring Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Any combination of education and experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position will be considered.

  • Familiar with inventor vault for access and storage for drawers.

  • Perform all necessary mathematical skills as required by the job

  • Ability to make sound decisions;
  • Ability to work in a lean manufacturing environment and adapt to a DFM (Design for manufacturing) philosophy.
