Your Opportunity

As a Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) on our transportation team, you will be part of Stantec’s dynamic group of over 500 bridge engineers responsible for expanding our bridge engineering efforts across diverse projects.

The entry-level Structural EIT will work as a team member on projects of varying sizes, under the supervision of a Senior Bridge Engineer, developing skills in evaluating, designing, and developing plans for infrastructure projects including bridges and transportation-related structures.

Your tasks may include assisting with the development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering reports, and studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with designing bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures following California DOT practices and AASHTO LRFD standards.
  • Conduct engineering investigations, feasibility studies, and risk analyses.
  • Assess and identify bridge load ratings.
  • Utilize advanced structural analysis/design software and 3D modeling tools.
  • Help prepare bridge construction plans and specifications.
  • Assist with structural computations, material quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates, and review work of others.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by senior staff.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Problem-solving skills using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Proactive approach and team coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, legal, and design requirements; familiarity with California DOT and AASHTO LRFD codes is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with Microstation and structural design is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to work well in a team.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural design; Master’s preferred.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience; internships in bridge design, analysis, or inspection are advantageous.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) designation preferred or obtainable within six months.
Work Environment

Primarily an office setting with computer work; field work may involve exposure to weather conditions.
