Job summary

Barry-Wehmiller Design Group in Atlanta seeks a Structural Associate (EIT) to join our Architecture/Engineering Practice. You will work with experts to deliver high-quality structural solutions for food, beverage, and life sciences clients, emphasizing seismic design and code compliance.

This role offers growth, mentorship, and exposure to multi-disciplinary EPC projects. You will collaborate across design teams, prepare drawings and calculations, and engage in field work and client interaction,

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in civil/structural engineering.
• EIT certification required; PE license a plus.
• Industrial/structural design experience and seismic focus helpful.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design/construction documents for new structures and upgrades as part of an integrated A/E team.
• Define facility requirements for projects in advanced technologies.
• Analyze and design concrete, steel, masonry, and timber with seismic emphasis.
• Produce structural calculations, drawings, specs, and reports.
• Analyze existing structures and recommend strengthening measures.
• Develop sketches into detailed working drawings.
• Ensure timely deliverables and client satisfaction.
• Conduct field work including as-builts, retrofits, and technical support.
• Collaborate with project team and clients to solve complex problems.

Structural Associate (EIT)

When you join Design Group as a Structural Associate, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work individually and in teams to support complex industrial design and EPC projects for our Food, Beverage, Consumer Packaged Goods, and Life Science sector manufacturing clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.

• Prepare design and construction documents for new structures and for structural upgrades to existing facilities as a part of an integrated multi-disciplinary A/E team




• Assist the owner or project manager in defining the facility requirements/program for projects in the advanced technologies industry




• Analyze and design concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures with an emphasis on seismic design




• Work with the project team to produce structural calculations, calculation checks, drawings, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables




• Analyze existing structures and provide recommendations for strengthening new loads where required




• Develop design sketches into completed working details and drawings based on engineering fundamentals and applicable codes




• Ensure timely deliverables and exceed client expectations




• Conduct field work including handling structural as-builts, rebuilds, retrofits, construction technical support, and client personnel interaction




• Analyze configurations of basic project structural components




• Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team

What You’ll Bring

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a structural designer (EIT) or engineer




• Experience in the analysis and design of structures with an emphasis on seismic design




• Hands on experience with structural engineering software such as ETABS, RISA, RAM, STAAD, SAP, Mathcad, and ENERCALC




• Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT (preferred)




• Knowledge of building codes and seismic requirements




• Experience in private sector industrial repair/remediation and greenfield projects (preferred)




• The ability to climb stairs, ladders, and equipment/structures of varying heights




• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint




• Proficiency in written and verbal communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations




• A bachelor of science in civil engineering or a master of science in structural engineering from an ABET accredited institution




• EIT (a must have)




• Professional Engineer License (a plus if you have it, must be willing to pursue and obtain)
