Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.
  • 5–12 years of engineering and design experience.
  • Bridge design experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain PE licensure within 6 months.
  • Familiarity with AISC/ACI/IBC/ASCE/AISC/AWC/AISI/AASHTO codes desirable.
  • Experience in reinforced concrete and/or structural steel design.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer of entire projects, directing other engineers to deliver specific deliverables.
  • Perform structural design of temporary structures for construction and demolition.
  • Design procedures for erection, demolition sequences and jacking sequences.
  • Eval existing/permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions.
  • Conduct design reviews of permanent structures and delegated components.
  • Prepare analysis, calculations, details, plans and reports for submittals.
  • Quality control reviews of plans and calculations by others.
  • Support preconstruction with risk evaluation and new tech exploration.
  • Support operations by evaluating out-of-spec work and proposed remediations.

Job description

Responsibilities

This position requires performing the engineering of entire projects, systems, or components of varying degrees of complexity under the direction of a Senior Engineer. This includes directing the efforts of other engineers to perform and deliver specific engineering deliverables and reviewing their work to confirm adequacy.

Typical Responsibilities and Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Perform structural engineering design of temporary structures used in the construction and demolition of structures. Temporary structures may include shoring, reshoring, falsework, formwork, crane foundations, crane tie-back connections, temporary stability bracing.
  • Perform structural engineering design for construction procedures used in the construction and demolition of structures. Construction procedures may include erection plans, demolition plans, jacking sequences, and post-tensioning/un-tensioning sequences.
  • Perform structural engineering evaluation of existing and proposed permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions. These may include pump trucks, cranes, and other equipment on structures, temporary attachments to permanent works, hoisting from permanent works, and similar conditions.
  • Perform design assist and value engineering reviews of permanent structural systems, including foundations, framing systems, and delegated components.
  • Perform conceptual structural engineering design of complete structural systems for design-build efforts.
  • Prepare appropriate analysis, calculations, details, plans, and reports as required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties above. Work product may be for internal use or for submittal to clients and will typically be sealed by the Senior Engineer in Responsible Charge of the work.
  • Perform quality control reviews of the plans, calculations, and other documentation prepared by other engineers employed by Brasfield & Gorrie or by external consultant engineers.
  • Support preconstruction teams as needed by identifying and evaluating risks, vetting means and methods, brainstorming schemes, and exploring new technologies.
  • Support operations teams by evaluating work that may be out of specification such as misplaced foundations and columns, distressed members, cracked concrete, misalignments, insufficient concrete breaks, and similar issues. Develop remediations for work performed by Brasfield and Gorrie. Review proposed remediations for work performed by subcontractors.
Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field
  • 5 - 12 years of engineering & design experience, open to more experience candidates as well.
  • Bridge design experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Professional Engineering Licensure within 6 months of hire
  • Experience designing to the requirements of AISC and/or ACI. Familiarity with IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWC, AISI, and AASHTO codes is desired.
  • Experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete and/or structural steel systems. Familiarity with reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, structural steel, HSS, cold formed steel, timber, masonry, and foundation analysis and design is desired.
  • Solid engineering judgment and reasoning
  • Ability to tactfully advocate professional opinion and elevate unresolved issues as needed to resolve conflicts
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communications, and written communications skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal teams
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial, and strategic attitude
  • Proficient in MicroStation, Autocad, and/or other drawing software
  • Willingness to travel, as it may be required
