Job description

Advanced Solutions (AS) is a performance unit of Amentum Engineering, Projects, and Technical Solutions (EP&T). The AS Group specializes in the development, design, construction, and operation of complex research and development facilities, including wind tunnels, rocket test stands, climatic chambers, and more. This position offers the opportunity to work on structural projects within a multi‑disciplinary team and deliver key projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage structural engineers and drafters through all project phases.
  • Provide complete design solutions from concept through construction.
  • Apply design loading to structures using applicable building and design codes.
  • Design and analyze structures to meet project‑specific and code requirements utilizing hand calculations and finite element analysis (STAAD and/or ANSYS).
  • Develop engineering calculation packages for static, dynamic, blast, vibration, and thermal stresses.
  • Oversee development of 3‑D models and 2‑D construction drawings.
  • Develop construction bid packages, including calculations, specifications, and drawings.
  • Perform post‑design activities such as review of subcontractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
  • Conduct site inspections at fabricator shops and construction sites to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Provide leadership for junior engineers and drafter/designers.
  • Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines, including presentations and reports.
  • Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, project management, and marketing for small projects.
  • Work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplined team to meet project budgets and schedules.
Qualifications
  • BS or MS Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and analysis of structural systems.
  • Proficiency in finite element modeling (STAAD and/or ANSYS or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in building codes such as IBC, AISC, ACI, and ASCE.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability; able to lead a small team of structural engineers and drafters.
  • Strong time‑management and organizational skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract obligations.
  • Preferred: PE license.
  • Preferred: Experience designing structures or equipment using ANSYS and/or the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Preferred: Experience with dynamic loading, blast loading, and UFC codes.
  • Preferred: Ability to perform project management or marketing for small projects.
Compensation

$95,000 – $175,000 (optional based on experience, education, and market data).
