Job summary

Amentum is seeking an experienced structural engineer to perform modeling, analysis, design, and checks for moderate to complex structures. This role requires a strong background in civil/architectural engineering with a structural emphasis and a Professional Engineer license in the candidate's home state.

Responsibilities include preparing calculations, coordinating with multiple disciplines, and delivering complete design documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in a home state.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in STAAD.Pro modeling, analysis, design, and post-processing.
  • Proficient with MathCad, Excel, and Word.
  • Willingness to travel and pass security clearance.

  • Perform design development, analysis, or reviews for complex structures.
  • Prepare complete design specifications for projects.
  • Interface with customers and internal teams from quotation to final design.
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations.
  • Verify compliance with engineering standards and test procedures.

  • Possibly supervise a group of engineers on a project.

Job description

Purpose and Scope

Under the minimal supervision, performs engineering modeling, analysis, design, and checking for moderate to complex structures; prepares formal calculations, analyses, studies, specifications, reports, and other technical documents; checks and performs design verification of structural calculations, drawings, and specifications; reviews vendor drawings, shop drawings, and other discipline drawings.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Performs a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently.
  • Responsible for complete designs, analyses, or design reviews.
  • Generate complete design specifications for the most complex projects.
  • May train other engineers on technical issues related to the research, design, development, testing and analysis of engineering assignments.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.
  • Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  • May organize and supervise a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance.
Minimum Requirements
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis (or equivalent education).
  • At least 10 years of job-related experience.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in a home state.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Position may require travel.
  • In-depth knowledge of STAAD.Pro modeling, analysis, design, and post processing
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency in MathCad, Excel, and Word
  • In-depth knowledge of the process of preparing and checking calculations, as well as approval, revision, retention, and storage of project calculations
  • In-depth knowledge of drawing production and checking, as well as approval, revision, retention, and storage of engineering drawings
Preferred Qualifications
  • DOE/DOD project design experience.
  • Professional Engineering Registration
  • Master of Science degree in structural engineering
  • Government or nuclear experience, i.e., DOD, DOE, NR
  • In-depth knowledge of AISC Seismic Design Provisions, i.e., AISC 341
  • In-depth knowledge of nuclear facility design codes including ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 43, and DOE-STD-1020
  • Working knowledge of seismic response spectrum analysis
Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $130K - $160K (Annually) (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
