Structural Engineer - Bridge/Tunnel/Heavy Highway/Steel/Concrete - Transportation Systems Department
MUST BE A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (PE) BY STATE OF TEXAS
HYBRID/REMOTE BASED (as long as reside in state of Texas)
BGE is seeking a Structural Engineer for the Transportation department. Ideally will sit in Central Texas but open to hybrid remote based as long as reside in the State of Texas. Central Texas offices: Austin, TX (South Austin office or North Austin (Round Rock office) or our San Antonio office (San Pedro Ave).

Responsibilities:
- Perform structural engineering associated with transportation and public works projects, tunnels and access shaft design, and heavy highway construction including reinforced concrete design, structural steel design, prestressed concrete design, deep and shallow foundation analysis and design, complex retaining walls and systems, and maintenance/hydraulics access junction boxes.
- Focus on structural engineering of highway bridge design: overpass, flyover, girder, prestress concrete design, steel design, plate girders, and heavy bridges.
- Conceptualize the initial structural design approach for major phases of small to large projects or have overall responsibility for the structural engineering work on a project of limited or larger scope.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of American Concrete Institutes (ACI), American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), Minimum Design Loads for Structures, ASCE 7, and American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Specifications. Some knowledge of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) is a plus.
- Experience with STAAD or alternate structural engineering modeling software, MDX, CSi, LEAP, LPILE+, and Bentley Engineering products (OpenBridge design/modeling).
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate structural engineering work, and supervise the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies.
- Resolve a variety of complex problems, including conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by a Senior or Lead Engineer, Project Manager, or Supervisor.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- PE License in the State of Texas or the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas within 60 days of hire date.
- A minimum of 6+ years of progressive work experience in the civil/structural engineering field.
- Experience with structural services in the delivery of TxDOT Plans, Specifications, and Estimates.
- Experience with design of water/wastewater, tunnels, drainage, highway, marine, rail, and airport structures is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of ACI, AISC, Minimum Design Loads for Structures, ASCE 7, and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Specifications. Some knowledge of AREMA is a plus.
- Experience with STAAD or alternate structural engineering modeling software, MDX, CSi, LEAP, LPILE+, and Bentley Engineering products (OpenBridge design/modeling).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-office work is required.
