AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) seeks a Structural Engineer in South Carolina to lead bridge inspections, load rating, and design support for new projects. The role requires organizing evaluations, reporting, and coordinating with teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.

The ideal candidate has a BSCE with 1+ years in bridge work, with EIT preferred and PE obtainable within 12 months. Travel to sites and mentorship opportunities are available.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge, tunnel, and ancillary/traffic safety inspections and load ratings.

  • Design elements for steel, concrete, and timber bridges and related structures.
  • Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and provisions; may visit sites for inspections.
  • Support project managers with schedules, budgets, and proposals.

Job description

AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Bridge Inspection and Design teams in South Carolina. This is an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, highly-organized bridge inspection engineering professional to lead evaluations and load rating while also assisting the design team on new projects. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative consulting firm. Requirements/Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree

1+ years of experience in bridge inspection or design, methods, and procedures.

Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) is preferred

Experience With SCDOT Projects Is Preferred

Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation or ability to obtain within 12 months is preferred

Bridge Design/Rehabilitation And Bridge Load Rating Experience Is Preferred

NHI Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures, FCM, tunnel inspection NHI courses, railroad, and/or safety training are a plus.

Completion of an NHI two (2) week Bridge Inspector’s Training Certificate and/or Refresher course within the past 5 years is preferred.

Responsibilities

BSCE, safety inspection experience is preferred

  • Bridge, tunnel, and ancillary/traffic safety inspections and load ratings
  • Preparing scheduling, writing inspection reports, assuring QA/QC, and assist with project coordination
  • Perform engineering tasks related to bridge design projects and other transportation-related structural design and analysis projects.
  • Design steel, concrete, and/or timber bridge elements, walls, and associated structures.
  • Perform structural analyses, develop calculations, and prepare plans in accordance with federal, state, and local agency requirements.
  • Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and special provisions.
  • May perform site visits and structure inspections from time to time.
  • Manage and maintain project and QA/QC documentation.
  • Assist project managers with assignments including schedule and budget updates and proposal preparation
Skills & Abilities
  • A self-starter with the ability to work with project teams and manage multiple and concurrent tasks/assignments
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage the inspection duties in the field.
  • Data driven and detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of Architecture, Engineering, Construction inspection process and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to work sites.
