Role

We are seeking a self‑driven Structural Engineer 1 who excels in collaborative environments and can effectively manage engineering projects of varying size and complexity. In this role, you will support one of our key engineering value streams—Facilities at Newport News Shipbuilding. Placement will be determined based on how your skills align with organizational needs.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, initiative, and a team‑oriented mindset. In this position, you will help coordinate a variety of engineering projects that support critical facility improvements across the shipyard.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and refines structural engineering specifications for product design and operation, addressing metallic, non‑metallic, and composite materials across structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, power plant, armament, and HVAC systems, as well as equipment and maintenance designs.
  • Conducts analyses focused on damage tolerance, durability, producibility, cost, safety, design allowables, and structural modeling.
  • Areas of specialization may include dynamics and loads, stability, stress and fatigue, and thermal analysis.
  • Utilizes and validates 3D and digital modeling to support and communicate design intent throughout production.
