Job summary

Kennedy Jenks Consultants in Northern California seeks a licensed Civil Engineer with a structural focus to provide structural consulting and construction administration for water and wastewater projects.

The candidate will lead design of structures for pump stations, reservoirs, and treatment facilities, with experience from conception through construction and on-site observation. A CA PE is required; SE is preferred. Hybrid work model with several NorCal offices.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree with structural focus.
  • CA PE license required; SE license preferred.
  • 10+ years of consulting structural design experience.
  • Experience from conception to completion including design, analysis, and construction.
  • Deep understanding of structural design principles, codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D/BIM modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering projects for concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and composite construction.
  • Prepare specifications and drawings for structural components.
  • Design and analyze treatment facilities, pump stations, tanks, and related structures.
  • Lead construction observation and on-site support.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the United States.
  • Use BIM tools and Revit to deliver projects and interactive client environments.

Position Summary

Kennedy Jenks is seeking a licensed Civil Engineer with structural focus in our Northern California offices. The right candidate will have experience providing structural consulting services and construction administration with a preferred background in water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The Structural Engineer plays a crucial role in designing and ensuring the structural integrity and life safety of various infrastructure projects such as pump stations, reservoirs, and water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead structural engineering projects in the design of concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and composite construction to deliver structural solutions for projects both large and small. This role will require the preparation of specifications and drawings on projects as it relates to structural engineering.
  • Design and analyze structures such as treatment plant buildings, tanks, clarifiers and other facilities that are a part of the water and wastewater treatment process in high seismic regions. Projects may also include existing structure evaluation.
  • Design and analysis of pump stations including the buildings that house pumps, piping systems and support structures.
  • Experience with RISA 3D, Enercalc, RAM Elements, RAM Structural Systems, and STAAD is preferred.
  • Lead structural engineering efforts related to engineering services during construction as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. Work includes on‑site structural observation.
  • Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to provide solutions to clients throughout the United States including and supporting municipal agencies and industrial facilities.
  • Use BIM tools to deliver many of these projects, and to provide clients with interactive environments to provide meaningful input on projects from the initial planning stages, through design and construction. Experience with Revit is preferred.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering focus (ABET accredited).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience (15 years preferred) as a consulting engineer focused on structural design. Preferred experience in structural engineering for industrial or municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) required in the state of California.
  • Licensed Professional Structural Engineer (SE) preferred in the state of California.
  • Experience working on structural engineering projects from conception to completion. This includes collaboration, design, analysis, and construction phase.
  • Deep understanding of structural design principles, codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D/BIM modeling.
Work Locations

Any Northern California KJ office including: Rancho Cordova, CA; Santa Clara, CA; San Francisco, CA; Walnut Creek, CA.

Kennedy Jenks supports a healthy work‑life balance and utilizes a hybrid model of home and office, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range for this position is anticipated to be $113,000 - $170,000, and may vary based upon education, experience, qualifications, licensure/certifications and geographic location.
