Job summary

RRC Power and Energy is seeking a talented Structural Engineer to support wind turbine foundations and other energy projects from remote locations or any U.S. or Canadian office. You will lead structural tasks, review drawings, and ensure code-compliant design while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.

The role requires a US P.E. license, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• 3–8 years of structural engineering design and/or project management experience.
• P.E. registration in the United States and desire to obtain licensure in additional states.
• Familiarity with US structural design codes (IBC, ACI, ASCE 7, AISC) and reinforced concrete.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural engineering principles and project management to tasks from start to finish.
• Understand reinforced concrete drawings and perform quality checks; respond to RFIs.
• Resolve construction issues, especially involving reinforced concrete, to client satisfaction.
• Follow company design procedures for wind turbine foundations and suggest improvements.
• Serve as engineer of record for various structural design projects.
• Review design documents and delegate reviews as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Apply structural engineering principles and project management skills to carry out project tasks from start to finish while working with the rest of the structural team to complete tasks
• Understand reinforced concrete design drawings and specifications in order to perform quality control checks and intelligently answer RFI’s from clients
• Resolve construction issues that arise, especially involving reinforced concrete, to the clients’ satisfaction, as needed
• Learn and follow established company design procedures for wind turbine foundations while actively contributing to the improvement of those procedures over time
• Take responsibility as the engineer of record for various structural engineering design projects
• Review or appropriately delegate the review of project-related design documents, such as fabrication shop drawings, for completion and errors
• Help model various structures using finite element modeling to be used for design; training will be provided as needed
• Review various design codes in order to apply the appropriate design standards
• Perform value engineering design analyses to determine the most cost-competitive design
• Complete project site-visits to inspect construction quality are possible on occasion

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

• B.S. or M.S. (or M.E.) in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
• 3-8 years of structural engineering design and/or project management experience (Other experience levels Will be considered for otherwise highly qualified candidates)
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) registration in the United States required as well as a desire to obtain licensure in additional states, as needed
• Candidate must be familiar with structural engineering codes in the United States, particularly reinforced concrete
• Candidates must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to lead or be part of a project team as well as communicate with clients directly
• Candidate must be able to independently execute project work and be able to work on multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
• Candidate must be highly organized to manage detailed project information and prioritize tasks
• Interest in using several different structural design codes including IBC, ACI, ASCE 7, AISC, etc.
• Well versed in Microsoft Excel and Word in order to analyze and communicate design information
• Must be willing to travel to project locations for short durations (typically one to two days per trip) around the U.S. at least a few times per year
• Must have the ability to walk on and inspect structural reinforcement
