Job summary

RRC Power and Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer III - Power System Study to join our team. This role supports wind, solar, and energy storage interconnection studies across development, construction, and operation stages, using ETAP, ASPEN, CYMCAP, and SKM.

Remote work is available, with offices in Denver, CO; Toronto; Calgary; or Round Rock, TX. The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in power system analysis, and a PE license in the US (or P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• PE license in the US or P.Eng. in Canada (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• 5+ years of experience in power system analysis, simulations and studies in the utility or consulting field.
• Strong understanding of utility interconnection requirements, NERC reliability standards, and RTO/ISO procedures.
• Proficiency in power system study software (ETAP, SKM, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Perform wind and solar interconnection studies at development, construction, and operation stages.
• Model wind, solar & storage interconnection and compliance.
• Prepare technical reports, study documentation and client deliverables.
• Interconnection experience and understanding in ISOs is required.
• Take ownership of deliverables and manage multiple studies and projects.
• QA/QC of study packages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform wind and solar electrical interconnection studies at development, construction, and operation stages, including system planning models, system impact studies, stability, voltage ride through, frequency response, FERC/NERC compliance studies.
• Model and study wind, solar & energy storage plant interconnection and compliance
• Perform wind and solar electrical engineering studies at both the development stage and construction stage.
• Model projects using ETAP, ASPEN, CYMCAP, SKM,
• Prepare technical reports, study documentation, and client deliverables
• Interconnection experience and understanding in the various ISOs is a requirement.
• Specify equipment ratings and project design parameters based on studies
• Take ownership of deliverables to meet and exceed client expectations
• Manage multiple studies and multiple projects at a time
• Perform QA/QC of study packages

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Master's Degree in Engineering with renewable energy focus a plus
• Professional Engineering (PE) license in the U.S. or P.Eng. in Canada (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• 5+ years of experience in power system analysis, simulations and studies in the utility or consulting field.
• Strong understanding of utility interconnection requirements, NERC reliability standards, and regional transmission organization (RTO/ISO) procedures.
• Proficiency in power system study software
• Ability to interpret and apply IEEE, IEC, and other applicable standards.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
