Job summary

Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc. in Portland, Oregon seeks a Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join our Portland office. The role focuses on engineer-of-record design, code checks, and developing contract documents for diverse structural projects.

The successful candidate will hold a PE license, be familiar with building codes, and proficient in structural software such as AutoCAD and Revit. Excellent communication and client-relations skills are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, 10+ years preferred.
• Professional engineering license required.
• Familiarity with applicable building codes and standards.
• Experience with structural design software; AutoCAD and Revit desirable.
• Experience managing structural projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

What We Are Seeking:

An experienced Structural Engineer for our Portland, Oregon office with 5+ years of relevant experience; 10+ years preferred.The position's level of responsibility will vary based on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and capabilities demonstrated.

Responsibilities:

• Perform engineer-of-record design computations and code checks and develop contract plans and documents for structural projects, including light-framed wood, heavy timber, structural steel, concrete, and masonry, in accordance with applicable building codes.
• Perform and prepare structural calculations and support documentation for submittal to permitting agencies.
• Perform feasibility studies, structural layouts, and analysis, and provide input on the selection of appropriate and cost-effective structural systems.
• Participate in structural QA/QC and based on experience, provide technical review and guidance to other team members.
• Assist with and, for more experienced candidates, lead the development of project scopes, proposals, budgets, and schedules.
• Coordinate structural engineering work with clients, architects, contractors, other disciplines, agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Develop and maintain client relationships, understand client needs, and contribute to identifying and pursuing opportunities for additional work.
• Provide oversight and resolution of structural issues during the construction phase.
• Manage or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work and based on experience, assume responsibility for overall project delivery.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff, as appropriate based on experience.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, 10+ years preferred.
• Professional engineering license required.
• Familiarity with applicable building codes and standards
• Proficiency with structural design and analysis software; experience with AutoCAD and Revit desirable.
• Experience managing structural projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and working directly with clients commensurate with level of experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly describe observations and convey information through sketches, calculations, reports and other technical documentation.
