Job summary

Digital Building Components (DBC) in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Structural Engineer to manage project design, primarily using cold‑formed steel framing, and to support panelization and fabrication through BIM‑to‑Fabrication workflows.

You will review project specs, lead structural consultants, and provide budgets and QC framing checks, collaborating closely with Project Management, Architecture, Modelers, Production and Install teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• Experience with structural design and codes helpful.
• PE license preferred or candidates pursuing licensure.
• Experience with shop drawing review, plan review, and construction administration.
• Seismic and wind design knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist prefab feasibility reviews during pursuits.
• Provide estimated framing and connections during pursuits.
• Support Sales team on pursuit calls with AORs, SEORs, and GCs.
• Provide in‑house engineering budgets for projects.

Digital Building Components (DBC) has an exciting opportunity in its Phoenix, AZ office for a Structural Engineer. DBC offers a unique approach to building faster projects, at a lower cost, and a higher level of quality through digital fabrication—transforming computer models and CAD/CAM drawings directly into precise‑to‑spec building components (BIM‑to‑Fabrication). As a design‑builder of structural building systems across the US, DBC seeks a Structural Engineer to manage the design of our projects, primarily using cold‑formed steel framing but also welcoming experience with structural steel and concrete systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in prefab feasibility reviews during pursuits.
• Provide estimated framing and connections during pursuits.
• Support Sales team on pursuit calls with AORs, SEORs, and GCs.
• Provide in‑house engineering budgets for projects.
• Coordinate structural consultant RFPs.
• Provide panel structural support & joint markups to aid with panelization.
• Review project specifications.
• Represent DBC on design calls with AORs, SEORs, & GCs.
• Lead structural consultants through the course of projects.
• Review consulting structural engineer drawings for accuracy and consistency.
• Consolidate consulting structural engineer drawings for efficient fabrication.
• Develop structural details for fabrication that align with DBC capabilities.
• Review panel lifting and weights.
• Review and coordinate with Architectural Panel Shops.
• Provide engineering support to Project Management, Architecture, Modelers, Production, Product Development, QC, and Install.
• Assist Project Management with structural RFIs.
• Perform structural calculations for mockups and prototypes.
• Perform 3‑D model framing QC.
• Review framing models and spool sheets.
• Provide calculations and lead testing for panel lifting approaches.
• Support Production with framing questions and fixes.
• Support Install with framing/connection questions and fixes.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Master’s in Structural Engineering is a plus.

Required Experience

• At least 4 years of experience.
• Experience with cold‑formed steel design.
• Experience with specification reviews.
• Experience with seismic and/or high wind design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledge of building codes, design & construction standards.
• Experience with shop drawing review, plan review process, and construction administration.

Preferred Experience

• Structural Engineer (SE) familiarity.
• Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
• Load bearing and/or exterior by‑pass cold‑formed steel design experience.
• Experience with OSHPD/HCAI design‑build projects.
• Panelized/modular design experience.
• Experience with healthcare and/or data center projects.
