Job summary

Owen Thomas Group is seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join their Buildings department. In this role, you will perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building structures, including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and at least 4 years of relevant experience, with a strong understanding of building codes and design standards. The position offers opportunities to grow technical responsibility and leadership.

Qualifications

Job description

We are partnered with a multi-disciplinary firm with offices across the east coast who are seeking to hire a Structural Engineer within their Buildings department.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural engineering analysis and design for building structures, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood systems
• Assist with site investigations to observe and document existing conditions and structural deficiencies
• Develop and review engineering calculations, and assist in the preparation of drawings and specifications
• Coordinate structural work with in-house architects and other engineering disciplines to support integrated project delivery
• Support the construction administration phase through site visits, field observations, submittal/RFI reviews, and responses to construction-related issues
• Contribute to projects ranging from small renovations and rehabilitation projects to large-scale new construction
• Work collaboratively with senior staff and project managers to meet schedule, budget, and quality objectives
• Take on increasing technical responsibility and limited task-level leadership as experience grows

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s degree a plus)
• 4+ years of relevant structural engineering experience with an emphasis on building structures
• PE preferred (EIT required; active progress toward licensure expected)
• Strong understanding and practical application of applicable building codes and design standards
• Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, RISA, STAAD, etc.)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a team environment
