Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare, analyze, and review design plans, specifications, estimates, and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Perform contract administration for structural services and recommend revisions.
• Prepare structural design plans, cost estimates, and reports for construction and operation of structures.
• Assist in reviewing project status and advising staff on structural design issues.
• Assist in review of plans, calculations, and expenditure requirements for construction methods.
• Ensure conformance to standards and completeness of structural work.
• Design and layout foundation, floor, wall, and roof framing for major structures.
• Provide recommendations to contractors and inspectors during construction.
• Analyze environmental impact and soils data to inform foundation design.
• Prepare feasibility and scoping reports for proposed structures.
• Conduct site investigations and prepare scoping reports.

Position Summary

A confidential employer is seeking a Structural Engineer for a full-time position in the Los Angeles area.

Candidates must meet the experience, education, licensure, and location requirements listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs moderately complex structural engineering work to include the preparation, analysis, and review of design plans, specifications, estimates, and reports to comply with guidelines set by federal, state, and local agencies.


• Performs contract administration in the review of structural services required of engineering consultants and architects and makes appropriate revisions and recommendations.


• Prepares structural design plans and specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual and detailed cost estimates, and other reports necessary for the construction, maintenance, and operation of various concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, timber structures, and other related materials.


• Assists in the review of project status, initiates changes, and provides advice and assistance to structural designers and other engineering and design staff.


• Assists in the review of structural plans and specifications, design and mathematical calculations in the completion of structural engineering projects and assignments, as well as creating cost and expenditure requirements for alternate means of construction.


• Assists in the review of completed structural work for conformance to recognized standards and feasibility of construction, as well as completeness and accuracy.


• Assists in the design and layout of foundation, floor, wall, and roof framing plans for major building structures.


• Makes recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers, and construction inspectors on structural issues during construction.


• Analyzes environmental impact reports, negative declarations, and soils test data to make appropriate recommendations for foundation design.


• Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary design for proposed structures and facilities under construction.


• Performs site investigations and prepares scoping reports and recommendations.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience

• Three (3) years of full-time paid professional structural engineering experience..


• Experience with school building construction is required.

Required Education

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with specialization in structural engineering courses.

Required License / Certification

• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) certification recognized by the State of California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is required.

Location Requirement

• Candidate must reside within 20 miles of Los Angeles, California.
