Job summary

Destination Enterprises is seeking a structural engineer for LAUSD projects, focusing on design, analysis and cost estimating for diverse building structures. You'll support consultants, review plans and ensure conformance with applicable standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering and at least three years of relevant experience, with a preference for expertise in educational facilities and related codes.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years full-time paid professional structural engineering experience.
  • Preference for experience on school building construction.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in structural/civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze and review design plans, specifications, estimates and reports to meet federal, state and local guidelines.
  • Assist in contract administration for structural services and revisions.
  • Prepare guidance and cost estimates for construction and operation of structures.
  • Review structural plans and calculations for accuracy and feasibility.
  • Design layout of foundation, floor, wall and roof framing for major structures.
  • Provide recommendations on structural issues during construction.

Destination Enterprises is contracting this position on behalf of LAUSD

Duties
  • 9.1 Performs moderately complex structural engineering work to include the preparation, analysis and review of design plans, specifications, estimates and reports to comply with guidelines set by both federal, state and local agencies.
  • 9.2 Performs contract administration in the review of structural services required of engineering consultants and architects and make appropriate revisions and recommendations.
  • 9.3 Prepares structural design plans and specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual and detailed cost estimates and other reports necessary for the construction, maintenance and operation of various concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, timber structures and other related materials.
  • 9.4 Assists in the review of project status, initiates changes and provides advice and assistance to structural designers and other engineering and design staff.
  • 9.5 Assists in the review of structural plans and specifications, design and mathematical calculations in the completion of structural engineering projects and assignments as well as creating cost and expenditure requirements for alternate means of construction.
  • 9.6 Assists in the review of completed structural work for conformance to recognized standards and feasibility of construction as well as completeness and accuracy.
  • 9.7 Assists in the design and layout of foundation, floor, wall and roof framing plans for major building structures.
  • 9.8 Makes recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers and construction inspectors on structural issues during construction.
  • 9.9 Analyzes environmental impact reports, negative declarations and soils tests data to make appropriate recommendations for foundation design.
  • 9.10 Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary design for proposed structures and facilities under construction.
  • 9.11 Perform site investigations and prepare scoping reports and recommendations.
  • 9.12 Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Required Experience:
    • 10.1 Three (3) years full-time paid professional structural engineering experience
    • 10.2 Emphasis on school building construction is preferred
  • Required Education:
    • 10.3 Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with specialization on structural engineering courses.
  • Preferred Licenses and Certificates:
    • 10.4 Possession of a Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) recognized by the State of CA Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is preferred.
