Job summary

AdvanSix seeks a Structural Engineer to support capital projects at chemical plants, handling planning through construction. You will design steel structures, supports, and foundations, develop layouts, and prepare calculations and drawings for bids and construction.

The role requires 5+ years in similar industrial settings, a P.E. license (PA/VA), and proficiency with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Robot, STAAD, RISA, and GT STRUDL. Occasional travel up to 10% to Alabama, PA, and VA sites may occur.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering is required.
• PE license (ability to obtain PA and VA licenses) is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role at a chemical plant or industrial facility.
• Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, IBC and federal/state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide structural engineering and design for steel structures, supports, pipe racks, and foundations.
• Develop conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, and material take-offs for scoping.
• Produce calculations, designs, specifications, and drawings for procurement and construction.
• Review vendor drawings and other disciplines’ drawings for structural input.
• Perform fieldwork to gather data and verify existing conditions and provide construction support.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join the capital projects engineering team at AdvanSix. This role involves providing structural engineering support for all phases of capital projects at chemical plants: initial planning and scoping, detailed engineering and design, and construction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Structural engineering and design for steel structures, equipment supports (pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.), pipe supports, pipe racks, concrete foundations for tanks / equipment, equipment pads, analysis of existing structures and foundations, underground piping, etc.
• Developing conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, and material take-offs for estimating during project scoping
• Producing calculations, designs, specifications, scopes of work, engineering packages, sketches/drawings for procurement, bidding, and construction
• Reviewing and checking vendor drawings, and other disciplines’ drawings for structural input
• Performing fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, inspect / verify existing conditions, provide construction support, provide repair recommendations, etc.
• Providing assistance and direction to the design team to produce drawings suitable for bidding and construction purposes
• Reviewing fabrication drawings, requests for information (RFI), and other construction submittals for conformance with engineering drawings, requirements, and specifications
• Structural engineering and design for repair and rehabilitation of existing steel and concrete structures, (pipe supports, vessel foundations, equipment supports, etc.)
• Some travel (10%) to other AdvanSix sites in Alabama, Pennsylvania, and within Virginia may be necessary

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License (ability to obtain PA and VA licenses)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role at a chemical plant or similar industrial facility (power plant, refinery, paper/pulp, pharmaceutical, etc.)
• Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, IBC, as well as federal and state regulations.

Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences:

• Strong communication skills, the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and in a multi-functional team environment
• Basic understanding of civil engineering principles related to storm water, sanitary and process sewers, paving, walkways, and roads is a plus.
• Experience in 3D modeling utilizing software such as AutoCAD and/or CADWorx Structure software to create 3D models and drawings
• Experience with design software, such as Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis, STAAD, RISA, GT STRUDL, etc.
