Job summary

TPD in the United States is seeking an experienced structural engineer to assist with structural reviews for locally sponsored projects, including bridges, culverts and retaining walls. The selected candidate will be involved in structural design activities and work within a collaborative, creative, flexible and supportive environment.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 8 years of experience, a Civil Engineering degree, PA PE preferred, and familiarity with PennDOT projects and CAD tools

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PA PE license preferred.
• Experience with PennDOT design preferred.
• Experience supervising design teams for County/State bridge projects.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Review structure submissions from concept through letting.
• Provide SME guidance to clients in structural engineering.
• Prepare design computations, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Design superstructure, substructure, and foundation layouts; prepare drawings.
• Analyze field data, reports, maps and photos to plan designs.
• Obtain, analyze and interpret data for projects.
• Prepare or modify reports, specifications, schedules and designs.
• Use CAD/CAE software to prepare engineering documents.
• Support business development with project research and field reconnaissance.

The selected candidate would also be incorporated into structural design activities. Duties and Responsibilities

• Review of structure submissions from project concept through project letting.
• Provide support to the client as a subject matter expert in structural engineering, providing technical guidance.
• Preparation of design computations, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Specific tasks may include superstructure design, substructure design, foundation design, geometric layout, drawing preparation/checking, structural analysis, design of other transportation related structures (retaining walls, sound walls, sign structures), performing QC checking, etc.
• Assisting in the analysis of field data, reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs to plan and design projects.
• Obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting data.
• Assisting in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for projects.
• Use of computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Assisting with business development activities by performing project research and performing field reconnaissance.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• PA PE preferred
• PennDOT (including PA counties) design experience preferred
• Prior oversight of design teams for County or State bridge projects
• Experience using CADD Software (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong work ethic and ability to work on multiple projects and ability to meet multiple deadlines
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid Driver’s License
