Job summary

Kleinfelder is seeking a Structural Engineer in the Hunt Valley area to join our growing transportation and structural team. You will perform design work for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structures, including design calculations, load ratings, specifications, and field inspections.

Candidate should have a ABET-accredited degree and 0–5 years of experience, with an aim to obtain EIT in the first year.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
  • 0–5 years of design experience in structural engineering (internship/co-op considered).
  • Willingness to obtain EIT certification in the first year of employment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Willingness to perform field inspections of transportation structures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design plans for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation structures.
  • Utilize CADD and engineering software to create detailed design plans and drawings.
  • Prepare structural design calculations per standards and client preferences.
  • Perform structural analysis on new and existing transportation structures.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and specifications for transportation projects.
  • Participate in field inspections around roadways and water.

Our Hunt Valley office is looking to hire a structural engineer to add to our growing team.

Step Into Your New Role

As a Structural Engineer you will perform engineering tasks alongside seasoned project managers and engineers in transportation and structural engineering, applying relevant design criteria, standards, and processes. You will work on public and private clients’ structural design projects for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and more. The role includes design calculations, load ratings, specifications, field inspections, and work at heights. Specialized training for fieldwork will be provided.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop design plans for new transportation structures and for the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement of bridges, culverts, and other transportation system structures.
  • Utilize CADD and engineering software to create detailed design plans and technical drawings.
  • Prepare structural design calculations in compliance with relevant design standards and client preferences.
  • Perform structural analysis on both new and existing transportation structures using specialized design software.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and specifications for various transportation projects.
  • Participate in field inspections of structures over and adjacent to roadways and water.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
  • 0‑5 years of design experience in structural engineering (internship or co‑op experience and/or college coursework considered).
  • Ability and motivation to obtain EIT certification in the first year of employment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with team members and project managers.
  • Willingness to work in the field performing hands‑on inspections of transportation structures.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • EIT certification.
  • Experience with State Agency Transportation Department projects.
  • Experience with the design and analysis of transportation structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, ancillary structures).
  • Knowledge of MicroStation.
Benefits
