We are especially interested in engineers with 5–10 years of building design experience who are ready to take greater ownership of projects, technical decisions, client relationships, and their own career growth.

Charlotte is a priority growth market for Dunbar. For the right engineer, that means an opportunity to do more than fill a position. You can help shape a growing team, build relationships in one of the Southeast's most active markets, and take on increasing responsibility as the office expands.

Founded in 1966, Dunbar is a structural engineering firm serving public and private clients throughout the region. Our work spans higher education, healthcare, K-12 schools, municipal and civic facilities, cultural venues, athletics, manufacturing, multifamily housing, renovations, additions, and new construction.

We work closely with architects, contractors, owners, and public agencies, giving our engineers exposure to a wide variety of project types, structural systems, clients, and design challenges.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities will vary based on experience and may include:

  • Structural analysis and design of new buildings
  • Structural condition assessments, evaluations, and repair or restoration designs for existing buildings
  • Design and detailing of steel, concrete, masonry, wood, various types of foundation systems, and exposure to antiquated structural systems
  • Development and coordination of structural construction documents
  • Collaboration with architects, owners, contractors, and other design consultants
  • Construction administration, site visits, field observations, and investigations
  • Project coordination and management
  • Client communication and relationship development
  • Mentoring and technical guidance for developing engineers
  • Participation in the continued growth of Dunbar's Charlotte practice

Experienced candidates will have opportunities for increasing project, client, technical, and leadership responsibility based on their interests and experience.

  • Sound technical judgment and attention to detail
  • Initiative, curiosity, and an interest in taking greater ownership of projects and client relationships
