Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Structural Dynamics Engineer to support NASA programs, performing dynamic analyses on spacecraft and lunar vehicles and integrating results across multiple human spaceflight initiatives. The role involves both in-house and commercially available tools, with emphasis on accurate model development, verification, and integration with test campaigns.

As NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States. We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Dynamics Engineer to join the team. This position will be performing structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles in multiple NASA human spaceflight programs. This includes Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, Pressurized Rover, and others.

The position will include some of the following duties and responsibilities:

• Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, coupled loads analysis, and interpret results
• Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes, write new simulation scripts and code, typically with Python, as needed
• Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests
• Perform modal analysis on finite element models in preparation for modal tests
• Identify critical modes for a component or integrated system
• Review and process modal and structural data (analytical and test)
• Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, documenting test results
• Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data
• Perform model correlation by adjusting analytical models based on test data to better align the model with actual hardware
• Perform other duties as required

Requisition Qualifications:

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must have excellent oral and written communications skills
• Experience with desktop software applications, MS Office is required
• Experience in finite element model manipulation and coupled loads analysis
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++

Requisition Preferences:

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
• Experience using MSC NASTRAN with FEMAP as a pre/post-processor
• Experience or relative coursework in Systems Engineering
• Experience or Proficiency with Component Mode Synthesis and Craig Bampton model reductions
